A Bullfrog, or so we thought, since night after night he graced us with his amorous calls, in an attempt that some willing female would take him up on his offer.
However, the skinny little frog we witnessed bellowing away at the top of his lungs, was nothing more than something resembling a lizard.
We were confused.
This Spring, the same sounds came echoing from the pond. I expected to see the same little frog sitting amongst the day lilies, unimposing and slight of build.
Imagine my surprise when I caught my first glimpse of this now robust and portly gentleman, a Wood Frog as far as we can tell.
I've named him Igor.

He adds so much to a perfect place.
I wonder when our little green frogs will be back? Soon I bet.
Wow! He IS impressive. What a year does for a gentleman like this! :-)
Igor's fantastic! He looks lovely peeking out of that hosta!
One of the things my husband and I look forward to about the spring is the return of frog-song. They don't start up until the frost is out of the ground and that was really just a few days ago. We've been happily listening to the lovely sounds each night since then.
Happy Gardening.
Igor is quite large, probably eating small children when you are not looking :o/
I loved listening to the frogs calling when I was in Tennessee. Although the calls are very loud, it is hard to see the frogs. Your Igor is a lovely creature. He deserves to get a mate!
Good find. Have not catch one myself...
have a good weekend. !

I love hearing them at night just as it reaches dusk. We here call them Peepers. Wonderful photo . It's funny how we name the creaters and critters around us lol.
We love listening to the Bull frogs on our ponds. Especially when we can have the windows open at night, great way to fall asleep. Enjoy your weekend.
Great post Jo! Igor is quite the handsome frog prince!
We're beginning to hear frogs and owls and it's a delight!
Hugs!
