Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog

Yesterday, as most folks were busying themselves with the Black Friday pre-Christmas sales, my daughter, grandson and myself took a leisurely road trip.
Heading West, one hundred and sixty miles, towards Memphis with a mission in mind.

This part of Tennessee is abundant in Natural Wildlife Refuges, creeks, rivers and marsh land.
Mostly rural, and dotted with farms throughout.

Our trip took us through the historic Williamson County, Tennessee. An area steeped in history and known throughout the area as home to many of Nashville's Country Music stars.
Bucolic Williamson County is America's wealthiest county, dotted with manicured horse farms and mansions, with more guitar-shaped swimming pools per square mile than any other County.

The historic civil-war battle of Franklin Tennessee known as the Bloodiest Battle of which over 10,000 men died in a brutal 5 hour siege.

The Carnton Plantation was forever changed by the tragic events on November 30, 1864
- the monumental battle of Franklin.
It became the largest Confederate field hospital, and final resting place for 1481 soldiers.

Leipers Fork, a tiny woodsy community settled in the late 1790's by pioneering families.
Known as the true 'Little Mayberry'.

Finally arriving at our destination.

Situated not far out of town, "Miss Bossy Boots" ( my nickname for the GPS lady ), announced "Turn right ... arrived at destination."
A beautifully restored old farmhouse, complete with a tin roof, and home to this little fellow.
Meet "Bo" short for Bocephus, my grandson's new black and tan Coon Hound.
Six weeks old and raring to go !

The beginning of a new friendship, he's already got the howling down pat.
As Copper said in Disney's Fox and the Hound............
"Because I'm a hound dog...arooroorooroo!! "

I'm sorry I've not been able to visit your blog this week, but life has gotten in the way of blogging...But I'm so glad that you had such an enjoyable Thanksgiving and day trip with your family--What interesting places to visit!! Your new 'grand-dog' is just precious!! Our very first Golden was named 'Tod' from the Fox and the Hound...

That top photo is stunning. The whole area has a lot of history that we don't pretend to have up here in the prairie. I love the hound dog, let it howl only in the day time.

sounds like you had a wonderful adventure Jo. I think I'd really like to visit some of those places myself. That beautiful puppy is so adorable, makes me want to give him a cuddle and scratch those silky ears. Hope you had a great thanksgiving!

That Bo is just a darling puppy! Just look at the size of those paws!

Miss Bossy Boots, hmm, everyone has a name for the GPS.... mine is b*tch, she almost landed in the middle of the freeway whilst going through Chicago during rush hour....

I used to like the drive down from Paris to the house (with the exception of #13 from Linden on down.)

Have a good evening!

I live about 15 minutes from some of your road trip photos so I know you had to have had a good time :) Bocephus looks adorable and I am sure will grant the family many hound dog moments. " Waaaarhooo."

What a delighful post this is. I am endeared to it by two thing: first, I am from middle tennessee and your photos were like going home again. We were raised on stories of the trials and tribulations of those who served so valiantly at the Battles of Franklin and Nashville. Secondly, a new pup is the best thing. especially the hound dog kind.

Blessings, Chris.

I am totally absorbed with The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks~it's all about Carrie McGavock and the Carnton Plantation. If you haven't already, get the book on CD. I must have listened to it literally 200 times now. The readers are excellent~I want to go to the plantation soon...I'm really not that far away about 5 hours. Let me know if you have heard the CD or plan to get it.. It is wonderful!

I'd much rather do what you did instead of going "black Friday" shopping. What a pretty place you visited.

That lovely drive took you to my old stomping grounds as I'm from Memphis! You're so right that Tennessee is a beautiful place.

Hope your grandson and that cute hound dog become best of friends! Our first dog looked just like this puppy. Punkin thought her job in life was to protect the house from the almost daily attack from the mailman!

Hugs!

My son lives in Nashville, and while there last fall, we drove out Franklin way and visited one of the graveyards. I thought I recognized one in your photos. I love the Civil War era history, and I plan to take in more of it when we go back that way again. Beautiful area - I want to see more!

My ears perked up with this post...mentioning Memphis, as that is where I now live. My eyes lit up the most to see the Paris catfish sign....What did you visit there? Did you make it to Memphis? I love your pictures!!!
