If you listened carefully you could hear the trees and flowers, heaving a big sigh of relief, their roots and foliage drinking in every last drop of moisture.
The temperatures fell, and for the first time in several weeks we enjoyed a tolerable 81degrees.
Oh, how I love days such as this.
How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
How it clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I am so glad you are getting some relief from the heat, and a gentle rain can't be beat. We get plenty of that here... :-)

I love being out and hearing that gentle rain, the poem you chose says it all. Love this post, love all your posts Jo. Have a great week ahead, with more gentle rain for the thirsting flowers :)
beautiful flower with throat wide open in thirst for rain. Your commentary is great and the poem is stupendious.
We need that kind of slow soaking rain. Sooothing.
Perfect thoughts for a perfect rain shower! I hope you're enjoying your weekend!
I'm glad you got a gentle rain. All the trees, vegetation, and animals of the forest I live in are longing for a day like that; we've not had rain for months.
Great photo of that gorgeous flower!
We had the gentle rain and Jack didn't notice, it was after it really started pounding on the metal roof, that he went to his hiding place.
Love the rain, it does feel great, not to be in that heat!
We had it, too! Who would have thought that after the soggy spring we had, that we would be wanting rain by September!
We have cooled down in a big way - 42 degrees last night.
You have made this little rain shower sound so idyllic. I bet the smell was wonderful too :-)

Beautiful, beautiful rain. I'm glad that you finally got some.
we always step into the back yard after a rain and watch the flowers, trees, bushes as they reach for the sky and sigh with relief and they look like they are shouting hallelujah
Beautiful morning glory shot.
I love that beautiful flower.
I love that you could listen and hear the flowers, roots and trees breathing in the sigh of relief since the rain began to fall.
