Toad-ally Cute.

The First Sergeant has always loved a bargain.
Some people even go so far as to call him "cheap" but you didn't hear that from me.

When we were newlyweds, setting up our home, Sarge would spend his Saturday's roving around the local town-market, bargain hunting.
He surprised me with my first two sets of dinnerware bought from one of the market stalls, and the list of knick-knacks he bartered for, ranged from Royal Doulton figurines, to furry little Gunks.

Lately, he has developed the urge to bargain shop at the local secondhand and thrift shops.
On his way home from work yesterday afternoon, he stopped in the Goodwill store and found this cute little frog lamp albeit minus a shade.

I was trying to think of something I could use for the shade then it dawned on me....the old colander I had bought at an antique shop.
It fit perfectly !

I'm going to use it in the potting shed, the light shines through the holes, and creates a magical display, almost celestial.

I can't wait to see what treasure he brings home next week.

You never know what treasures you may find at the thrift shop, and how ingenious of you to come up with the shade. I bet it will be adorable lit up.
I haven't found any good thrift shops since I moved :(

Love your "shade"! I would never have guessed it was a colander, how cute! I can just picture the tiny star lights it will make on your ceiling.

I love the shade idea for the lamp--It's perfect--You could probably sell it for 2-3 times what you bought it for now! :-)

I love a good bargain and hunting for them too!!

Enjoy your Sunday!

I am seriously impressed with this lamp.!!
Who would have thought a colander as a lamp shade, and it looks wonderful, don't banish it to the potting shed, let it be seen.!!

What a cute idea of using a colander as the shade. I'll bet it'll look adorable in the potting shed. I hope you'll share photos of it when you put Mr. Frog in his new home. Have fun.

I love charity and thrift shops - you so often find something totally unique and a real talking point. And of course it's the very best way to recycle :o)

toad a ly COOL, way cool in fact. I am the cheap person in our family. I love old things and bargains and I almost cry when i spend $$$. I love thrift stores better than antique stores because of the price difference. when bob and I were married 25 years ago, we had a house and nothing else. for the first 5 years of our marriage we spent the week ends at flea markets picking up things a piece at the time. once on the way to work, I saw a table sitting in a yard and stopped to see what they wanted, she said 15.00 i grabbed it and was almost late back from lunch. did the same thing for a 7 dollar chair that looked like a million bucks, sitting in someone yard. the chair i am sitting in right now came from our neighbors trash pile.

I always enjoy innovative and novel items like this! Sarge is definitely a man with good taste!

As far as being cheap, well, I have been accused of being, uh, frugal! I am careful with a dollar. Not one to spend money easily.

And I don't mind a bit since when I DO spend money it is pretty special. Right?!

Toad-Ally cute.
Unique.
I've been telling myself I'm going to stop at one of many we have here, some day and take my small point & shoot. I'll bet it would be an interesting adventure.

Well you have certainly shone the light on that idea, we too are collectors of old things. My wife mostly has an eye for that sort of thing, but I have my moments also!

Way to go, Sarge! And what an innovative way to top the lamp. My mind is swirling with possibilities now.

Thrifting is my favorite sport. If it was a winter olympic event, I would be a serious competitor! Even in my old age!
