Robin Redbreast

The fireside for the cricket,
The wheat-stack for the mouse,
When trembling night-winds whistle
And moan all round the house.
The frosty ways like iron,
The branches plumed with snow,-
Alas! in winter dead and dark,
Where can poor Robin go?
Robin, Robin Redbreast,
O Robin dear!
And a crumb of bread for Robin,
His little heart to cheer.

~William Allingham.

What a sweet picture and poem. I hope it won't be long before we start seeing robins...a sure sign of spring.

Loved this poem, and the picture. I have spotted some robins here in Illinois...surprisingly. It seems the birdies are slowly making their way back. We can hear them early morn, and it's such a delight. Thanks for a lovely post.
Happy Tuesday!

I have a bird's nest in the tree just outside my office window. I love to hear the chirping, it fills my heart with joy. Thank you for the lovely poem!

When we see Robin's Spring must be around the bend in the road.

I've been trying to put a name to the things I've been drawn to for the past year or so and now that I've found your blog I know. English Country. I'm in love with all the photos on your sidebar and the books on your shelfari. I'm so glad I found your blog and look forward to more posts from you.

Hello,
I certainly enjoy your web site, it is beautiful. You capture the moment with your words and pictures.
I'm happy to see you love cats, so do I or just about any furry creature. Our home has Buffy the cat, a stray that showed up and demanded room service, and our little Welsh corgi Jag who still tries to herd us in the same room together.
Thanks again for making the day a little more cozy and cheerful. Diana
