Trees

TREES

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by people like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Joyce Kilmer 1886-1918

That is quite a tree. I bet it's very old from the size of it. Those beautiful old oaks are really treasures.

What a magnificent tree! Is that on your property? I would just want to look at it, and touch it, in wonder, every single day.

I'm swooning and getting a little misty eyed. I miss great big old trees like that (just don't get them like that on a little Greek island!) and what a fitting poem. Just beautiful.
Thanks for your warm and encouraging words on GLP.
Hugs,
Joan

That is a gorgeous tree! They don't grow like that in this neck of the woods. Oh wait a minute, there's no woods around here!

I remember learning this poem when I was in school. Had to stand before the class and recite it. I love the picture, and your blog is always a pleasure to visit. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Hugs, Jo

Do you know I spent the day with you? Your music has been keeping me coming in the kitchen as I can today. So many of my favorite soundtracks all in one place! Lovely, lovely, lovely! Maybe next time, we could just sit together over a cuppa.
