The Little Home
The little house is not too small
To shelter friends who come to call.
Though low the roof and small its space
It holds the Lord's abounding grace,
And every simple room may be
Endowed with happy memory.
The little house, severely plain,
A wealth of beauty may contain.
Within it those who dwell may find
High faith which makes for peace of mind,
And that sweet understanding which
Can make the poorest cottage rich.
The little house can hold all things
From which the soul's contentment springs.
'Tis not too small for love to grow,
For all the joys that mortals know,
For mirth and song and that delight
Which make the humblest dwelling bright.

Although I suspect I might say it again when commenting on quotations/poetry you choose to post here, THIS may be my favorite! In combination with the background, gently falling snow, and soothing music, THIS is the place to be on this cold & icy Indiana morning.
Wonderful poem. Love the photo !
Have a great day .
What sweet sentiment this morning Jo, thanks for sharing it.
Good Morning Jo! What a beautiful poem...some of the words remind me of our little home. Love your cottage ornament...one day I hope to see the inside of a thatched roof cottage when visiting my sister in England. Looks as though we have more snow coming in today and tomorrow...that means I'm stuck inside again. Oh well the fire is going ...time to put some tea on. I hope your day is a good one. Take care and stay warm.

Love the little cottage is it one of David Winters??
I have one of his from 1985 it is Blackfriars Grange. Loved all his little houses, but only have the one.
What a charming poem and sweet little house! Is the house a David Winter cottage?
I have quite a few David Winter houses and cottages and they delight me no end. I shall have to go admire them again.
Hugs!
Your blog is a place of peace, beauty and contentment.
The perfect way to start my day. Thank you for the lovely inspiration.
Lots of love,

Your cottage is wonderful. This is done so well with such great detail and character. The poem is so appropriate to go with the photo.
Sweet poem and picture! The poem makes me think of my little house.
Good Morning!
Lovely verse and little house. BTW I think you will enjoy my post today!
This is such a sweet poem....Oh, the wisdom of old poems!

The cottage is a Lilliput Lane collectors piece, from the British Collection; Parson's Retreat.
It's one of my favorite pieces :)
Awww...and "things taste better in small houses" !! :)
Love that Collection piece, Jo. The Pastor's Retreat is just fabulous... Wouldn't it be great to have a home JUST like that one????
Great poem also.
Hugs,
Betsy
Edgar A. Guest! Now there's a name not heard too often these days. I used to have a book of his poetry, and I loved it. Thanks for bringing him back to my memory.
The poem is is wonderful -- it's been a long time since I've read it. The little parson's cottage goes with the poem perfectly.
Years ago my Mom gave me a book of
Edgar Guest poems...sadly the book had to be recycled during one of our many moves! Nice to read his words again. The Parson's Retreat is so peaceful and homey looking...a place one could indeed go to retreat.
