Treading Water

"A pool is the eye of the garden
in whose candid depths is mirrored
its advancing grace. "
~ Louise Beebe Wilder

The days have been excessively hot this past week. Normal temperatures at this time of the year are usually between 72 -75 degrees, and pleasant.
Over the last few days, the temps have soared into the low 90 degrees, with almost suffocating humidity, and undoubtedly due to the recent floods, there are mosquitoes everywhere....

We have a new visitor taking up residence at the pond, a young bullfrog. He's been making his amorous calls day and night, summoning any eligible female within earshot to venture his way.

Cold, wet leaves
Floating on moss-colored water
And the croaking of frogs -
Cracked bell-notes in the twilight

A lovely post! I am hearing frogs on the pond near us--One of them must be off key because this evening when I was coming home, there was a BIG snapping turtle in our driveway coming from the direction of the pond--I wanted to get a picture of it, but it was not in a mood to pose...

What a beautiful pond you have Jo, love your new Japanese water iris. We have frogs galore since we had 2 weeks of storms and just rainy days..I love the sound though. I hope you have sunshine tomorrow...enjoy your Tuesday. Maura:)

What a lovely iris and a beautiful pond. I'd so enjoy having both to enjoy here. Did y'all add the pond yourselves?

I overturn every container of standing water that I find in an effort to thwart mosquitoes. Deep Woods OFF helps, too, if you don't mind spraying yourself and then smelling like Eau Du OFF!

I'm glad you're back. Sip iced tea!

Hugs!

We have had a delay for some great reason with the mosquitoes, but now in the 90's every day.

Love the water Iris, Jo.... Did the bullfrog find a mate yet---or is he still 'singing'???

I'll bet the mosquitos are horrible --due to the flooding. Yipes!

Hugs,
Betsy
