Their Back !

The Hummingbirds are back!

Most of us can’t wait until April every year to start putting out our Hummingbird feeders.
We love attracting those little birds that are so much fun to watch.
Here in the South near Nashville we get lots of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, and welcome their return each year.

Before hanging up your hummingbird feeder, make sure to clean it out really well.
In the glass feeders use a rinse of 10 parts water to 1 part bleach solution. (If you have a plastic feeder, be careful. The bleach may discolor it). Rinse it really well with hot water.
Let the feeder cool before adding your nectar.

Your homemade nectar can be made from 1 part sugar (white/cane sugar) to 4 parts water. The traditional way of making your nectar calls for *boiling to make it easier to dissolve the sugar and to purify the solution so that it will stay fresh longer.
Let the nectar cool before pouring it into your feeder. -Please DO NOT add red food coloring or dye, or honey to the nectar.

You may store any unused nectar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.*I do not boil my nectar, according to Lanny Chambers, "It's not necessary to boil the water. The microorganisms that cause fermentation don't come from the water; they are transported to the feeder on hummingbird bills.

"Hang your feeder and enjoy!!!

Oh, I love hummingbirds! At our family cabin my grandpa used to fill them with a mix of sugar and water and they'd flit by and drink, practically landing on our fingers.

Great memories.

I would love to see a Hummingbird! You are so lucky to be able to see them like this. They look so tiny? I didn't realize that they were so small.

Best wishes and happy weekend,
Natasha.

Incredible! I have never seen three hummingbirds on one feeder before!

Okay. Today I am going to put up a hummingbird feeder! Here in Iowa we see them in the spring and fall. Maybe they are just passing through - I don't know.

But for whatever reason, I think we have very many during the summer months.

When I used to go to Ontario in the summer, I would see them a lot.

Take care.

Great photos! I've tried this but have not found the correct spot to hang it as not many of the birds visited it. They are indeed fun to watch!

adorable little guys to say the least, and I love the glass feeders that look like decorations. we had ONE in our yard last week, I did not see him, but my husband did. we don't attract them with feeders because of our Jake, he is a hunter.

I haven't seen any hummingbirds here in Virginia. It may take them a little longer to come on up here. Love the picture of the flower feeders.

It will be a little bit longer before they arrive here in central MO, but hey... we had one pass through in mid-November before. Anything can happen! Thanks for the reminder - will get on that task this week! I love the feeders in the last photo. -Tammy

Now you've got me excited Jo. Do you think they've reached Knoxville yet? I must ask Larry to get the feeder out and clean it before Wednesday because that's when I'm coming over. Last year the hummingbirds were so late, I didn't see any at all. Perhaps I will be lucky this year?
Blessings, Star

Are those your own pictures? They are absolutely wonderful! I only get a few hummers each year, I guess because I'm on the second floor, but I do get some. I will wait until I see one before I put out my feeder. I've got one just like the red one. Yes, spring is here!!

Thanks for reminding me, I cleaned my feeders out at the end of last season. I usualy have them hung by now, but it had sliped my mind. I will mix the nectar and hang them when I rise from my computer chair. It is also a few weeks past time to put up the Blue bird boxes "houses". Your pictures are great.

We haven't seen any sign of hummingbirds yet, but I guess we need to think about getting the feeders out.

Amazing that you were able to capture them on photo! I love them.
I've read that in Native American culture, a hummingbird symbolizes timeless joy and the Nectar of Life. It's a symbol for accomplishing that which seems impossible and will teach you how to find the miracle of joyful living from your own life circumstances.
Beautiful.

Love, love, LOVE that last shot! OMG, you have them this early?? We can't put up our feeders until after June 1st, when the danger of frost passes here.
