Floating Along

Another day of rain.
Six inches of the stuff, the ground is soaked.

It seems as though an entire Spring's rainfall has fell in one week.
Even Freddie the frog has taken to higher ground.

Cold, wet leaves
Floating on moss-colored water
And the croaking of frogs -
Cracked bell-notes in the twilight.

Being Thankful

Rain has fallen on and off for most of the day, making for the perfect opportunity to gather my Thanksgiving recipes.
Our Thanksgiving is a low-key affair, since like most families, our little close family, now includes in-laws, and extended family members, and time has to be split between both.
That's ok too,  this way we all have a chance to enjoy family, food and fellowship, and be grateful for the many blessings.

February Days

The rain has finally stopped.
Our state has endured the most rainfall on record in the past 139 years for the month of February, rivers are out of their banks, livestock has been moved to higher ground.
The grass is growing at a crazy rate, the little toad house has been occupied more than once this rainy season, the frogs are happy....

Returning

Two days of continuous rainfall, water standing ankle-deep, I'm beginning to think a pair of webbed-feet would be fitting.
Temperatures are unseasonably warm, and will remain so throughout the week.
There are shoots popping out of the ground everywhere, which is a little discerning, since we are still in the depths of winter, and snow is still a possibility.
I think Mother Nature has a wicked sense of humor.
Row, row, row your boat......

Autumn's First Freeze

I awoke in the middle of the night, to an unfamiliar sound........rain.
Finally, the rain gods have heard our plea, and after weeks of dry, hot, weather, a gentle rain fell for close to two hours.
Moisture of any kind is a welcome relief, although sadly tonight, it changes from the wet variety, to the frozen kind........
