And The Rains Came

Mother Nature sent rain for our holiday weekend.
Buckets full, with the odd peeking of the sun in between, enticing you into the garden with the hope of getting those much needed chores done.

Four days of continuous rain, for which we are grateful, even if her timing is a bit off.

A break in the heat
away from the front
no thunder, no lightning,
just rain, warm rain
falling near dusk
falling on eager ground
steaming blacktop
hungry plants
thirsty
turning toward the clouds
cooling, soothing rain
splashing in sudden puddles
catching in open screens
that certain smell
of summer rain

You have wonderful poetry that you post on your blog, Jo! We, too, have had the rain. In fact, our area is almost 17 inches above our normal rainfall totals for this time in the year. The garden is soaked, and there are puddles in it now.

Your photos are always so lovely. I enjoy the coolest of the greenery and all your beautiful flowers. We live in a desert area, oh we have a very nice lake and trees and green grass, but if you travel past the city limits there is nothing but desert. Thank God for irrigation :)
Thanks for the lovely comment that you left on my blog. We worked very hard restoring that old boat and we love her.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

I don't say it often, but we could do with some of your rain today Jo. Just watched Andy Murray win at Wimbledon. What a thrill.
Lovely pics as ever. Keep blogging.

Lovely photos. Sun before dusk yesterday, then late evening rain. Partly blue skies today, so a bit of garden time to squeeze in before going back to work. I never complain about rain, as the alternative is always the garden hose :)

I love this. You have a way of putting it in perspective. If we didn't have the rain we'd complain about not having any. But.... I sure would love to see some sun.. I too, love your beautiful poetry..Susie
