Deja Vu

It has been yet another incredibly hot day.
Four days in a row, we have broken temperature records.
The lack of rain adds to the miserable conditions, the land is parched and cracked, grass is brown and brittle, a tinderbox of trouble.

The birds are hiding out beneath the canopy of trees, every once in awhile they appear at the birdbaths to quench their thirst, all have their beaks gaped wide open in an effort to cool down.
Birds do not have sweat glands, so they can only lose heat through breathing.

The hawk, continues to visit.

I have been reading your blog since July 10, 2010, and I feel for all who have been going through such tremendous heat. Our weather has been fabulous and usually we get heat such as yours. Stay hydrated, do chores in the cool morning hours, seek shelter in the afternoon. Hopefully things will break for you soon. Hug Oliver for me. Mary A

Oh we keep praying for rain and cooler temperatures for your world.
The poor birdies- but thank goodness you have water for them. I bet all the birds tell their friends to go to your house.
I wish we could share some of our unusually cool weather with you.
If only.

I'm with you on the heat. We are definitely getting it too. The yard is getting crispy but by goodness the tomato plants are lush! Stay cool.

I've had to stay indoors mostly for the last several days...but had a bit of a thunder storm before dawn today, so hopefully the air quality is good enough for my open windows! Yes, it's our turn for a little break in the weather, and you're next!

We are supposed to start getting a warmup by the Fourth, but it's been day after day of rain and cool weather here in the Pacific Northwest. I wish I could send some of the rain your way!

Hi Jo!
I am praying for those of you suffering through this heat wave! And the precious animals too, poor little things. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers this July 4th and hope there will be a break in this weather pattern soon!

Hello Jo, Oh do keep those birds and deer watered. I'm so worried about all the animals over there. Hope the weather breaks for you soon :)

So far, we have been lucky in that we don't have many hawks around... I've seen maybe 1-2 in the past 2+ years....

BUT--we have lots of squirrels and chipmunks. AND---we have lots of raccoons, possums, and skunks at nights....

AND--the deer (which are desperate in this heat and drought) are now eating some of our day lilies and roses... Grrrrrrrr..... Such is life living in the woods!!!!! ha

Have a good day and stay COOL.
Hugs,
Betsy

This morning here it is under 100 got out and did a little clean up in the garden. The robin and jay's are taking over the bird bath with their new babys. When a hawk comes around our birds and squirrels sure disappear fast.

It rained last night, Hurrah for a wee bit of relief! I hope you got some rain in your part of Tennessee.

So good of you to keep water out for the birds.

Yes, we have had record highs here for the past four days, too. In fact, Saturday set the all-time record for high temperature (105) in our area, and Sunday tied that same temp! Today our forecast is for the high nineties, and we had a little rain - not even 1/10 of an inch in the rain gauge - overnight, but every little bit helps. I don't think it is to be as hot this week, and we have a chance of "pop-up" showers just about every day.

Hi Jo, sorry to learn of your extreme weather problems. Up here in PA it has been hot as well, for here anyway, and my yard is starting to turn brown. So far all the flower beds and raised gardens are ok. I do have soaker hoses in my gardens though. The weeds of course, are doing fantastic! Enjoy the 4th holiday :)

Just like Colorado! I hope we both get rain, and all who need it do too.

Beautiful Blue Bird, bring us rain.

Looks like we are in for a hot summer.
God Bless those who have lost their homes to forest fires and the ravages of nature.
