Truce

I have to admit, I really don't want to blame Oliver for the bite incident..
I have worked around animals some thirty years, and should have known better.
Truth is, Oliver has a bit of a "bull in a china shop" personality, he's a bit of a klutz to put it mildly, not realizing his own strength and body weight.
When I tried repeatedly to examine his leg, he was in the middle of eating, and becoming very annoyed.
He chomped down, and before I knew what had happened, he had already returned to eating, and dismissed the whole affair.

My dear kitty's of old, would have given me fair warning, at best a 'hiss' at worst a 'scratch'.
I didn't raise Oliver, it appears he has pretty well raised himself, and so it's the old game of survival of the fittest that he knows best.

Doc, says it's Cat Scratch Fever.
Which in itself is ironic after all the years I've worked for a veterinarian, restraining animals, suffering my share of bites and scratches, I didn't succumb to this malady.

Oliver is a sweet boy, affectionate to a fault, but rough and not aware how much.
I'll be more cautious when handling him during situations which require restraint, and he'll continue to entertain us by sliding across the hardwood floor, crashing into the butcher block, and doing his best impression of Tom Cruise in Risky Business.
Thank you for all of the get-well wishes. Many of you are animal lovers and know the lengths we go to for our fur babies.
I'd have it no other way.
The antibiotics have kicked in, and it's onwards and upwards from here.

Poor Oliver.... I guess all of us jumped on him!!!!! Well--like I said, I'm sure he didn't mean to do it....

I'm just glad you are better. Keep taking those antibiotics....

Oh dear Jo, what a shame. So sorry that you've been under the weather and that sweet and klutzy Oliver is the reason. I think he would be heartbroken if he knew he had caused you such discomfort. Feel better soon!

Wonderful news!! I'm so very glad you're feeling better!! I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago with our first cat--Like you, I looked on it as "one of those things" and not for a moment blamed the cat. I'll keep sending healing thoughts in your direction for you to continue to mend!! Take care of yourself!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your dear Oliver was the cause of your not feeling well but I'm sure he didn't mean it.
Hope you will be feeling better with each day; Oliver looks like he's forgotten about it already.

Poor Oliver and poor you! I've had cat scratch fever and it was awful. The worst part was waking up soaked in sweat. And the fatigue-seriously I wouldn't wish cat scratch fever on anyone! Hope you feel better soon!

I'm so glad you're getting better. And it IS ironic that you got it now, after working for a vet and all. At least you are now on the mend. I wonder if your blood builds antibodies so you won't get it again.

Hi Jo -www.catchannel.com just did a write-up about cat scratch fever. Take a look. I talked a bit about it on my blog last week. Get better soon and I am happy to hear that kitty did not get the boot. Some people do not give second chances but we would want one, wouldn't we? Deb =^..^= x 6

I'm sorry to hear about your bite! I am also glad that the antibiotics are kicking in. Even they make you feel odd sometimes. So, take it easy and you will heal. Meanwhile, Oliver will know what he has done and maybe he will not do it again! I've been bitten twice and I know what is like to have that hurt, physical and emotional.
Blessings, Star

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. While I have never been bitten by any of my dogs, each of my horses threw me off more than once, and I forgave them every time. It's what we do. I'm glad you forgave dear Oliver too.

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Oh, I'm so happy to find another Tennessean, even though you're a transplanted one. You're welcome, all the same! I've lived here all my life and it's beautiful as your photos surely tell! Love your blog and I plan to be back often. Have a good day!

Oliver is so handsome, sleeping in the basket. How awful to get cat scratch fever, I don't know anyone who has had that, up until today when I read your post.
Get well soon, and pet Oliver very gently!
