Sometimes all you need is a mid-week drive down a country road.
Tales of a British expat, transplanted into the lush Tennessee countryside. Lover of old, time-worn, and antique. Tea-drinker, flower-grower, animal-nurturer.

Golden Meadows
Drive along any country road in Middle Tennessee during the month of May, and you can't help but notice the fields are covered in yellow flowers.
The Meadow Buttercup ( Ranunculus acris ) is gathered for it's annual parade, it's bright, waxy petals, waving in the spring breezes for all who care to enjoy.

Enjoying Nature's Beauty
I am one of the fortunate ones, who was lucky enough to spend Mother's Day with my daughter and son-in-law.
Rambling around the farm, and enjoying all the beauty of their Tennessee home, what could be sweeter.
I hope your day was just as special !

Rambling On
Oftentimes a person has no other choice than to pick themselves up and dust themselves off.
That has been my goal today.
My work day finished early, enabling me to take a ramble in the countryside, roll down the windows, and let the wind blow the cobwebs out of my clouded view on life, these past few days.
I actually rode to the cemetery, and sat by Linda's graveside for a little closure.
The serenity and peacefulness held great healing powers; I didn't say goodbye, instead a " see you later " slipped from my lips.
Man's Testament.
Question not, but live and Labour
Till yon goal be won,
Helping every feeble neighbour,
Seeking help from none;
Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone,
Kindness in another's trouble,
Courage in your own.

This old antique store always makes me smile, with it's endless collections of memorabilia.
There are plenty of old barns dotted around the county, this one still in use.
Bygone signs
Grand old farmhouse
Cedar rail fencing
Timeless beauty
Tobacco barn
Things that made me smile along the way

Out And About.
Yesterday, I found myself running the back roads.
I had errands to take care of in the next County, and the quickest way of getting there would have been to take the interstate.
I really don't care much for interstate traveling, despite the convenience and time saving of it all, I find myself in a nervous frenzy when I arrive at my destination. There is just something unnerving about traveling down the highway at seventy miles an hour, in the 'rocking chair' of four eighteen -wheelers.
Instead I usually opt to take the country roads. The scenery is much more friendly, and if I see something of interest, I have the luxury of enjoying it, and even pulling off to the side for a picture or two.

Along the highway.

Out and About in The Country.....
Off Gallivanting.....

Today seemed like the perfect warm Summer's day to be out and about in the Tennessee countryside. OK to be honest, I had errands to run......
Stopped at my favorite little country cafe, The Whistle Stop Cafe, for a large iced tea, and piece of buttermilk pie :)
Want one of these......

A beautiful old farmhouse , I can imagine living here....
