News From Gobbler's Knob
It appears that winter is not yet over, according to the legendary groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. Six more weeks and hopefully we'll be well on our way to warmer days and blue skies.
Yesterday I noticed how many Robins had reappeared from their Winter nests, chirping and busying themselves about the landscape, the melting snow had stirred their little feathered souls. Today, they are silenced once again.
Yes, winter seems to just be arriving here in north Texas. We are expecting 4 days of below freezing temps, freezing rain, sleet, and possibly snow. And it seems that Punxsutawney Phil and Cailleach, the Gaelic hag are in cahoots!
I have discovered I have become a bit of a wuss... I think its cold here...but not a flake of snow can be seen. Thats what California has turned this Brit in to.
My mother used to say... when you see a Robin think of me... I wish there were more here.
I watched poor little Phil this morning being torn from his nice warm home to all of the cheers and flashing lights. No wonder he wanted six more weeks of winter. He wanted to go back to sleep!
There seem to be a lot of robins around this year. My brother said there were three trees in his yard full of them. Another friend saw at least 10 gathered together in her yard. I haven't seen a single one, though.
"In the Bleak Midwinter"....for some reason the "bleak" is resonating true this year. Icy rain and hazardous conditions predicted..good time to snuggle into a good book or stitchery with hot tea and a scone to mellow things out.... Be warm and safe.
Today I made that bean soup that you suggested the other day. I have a similar recipe somewhere in the welter of recipes that I hoard but just used the ingredients that you listed. Used hot Italian sausage instead of the ones you listed. Super good stuff. Glad I made enough, we have some for the next day or so. Snowy here we missed most of the ice but really cold weather coming in on Saturday morning a low of 3. Yikes! We'll need some warm stuff in our tummies to keep us warm while we shovel.

Yes, it will be not coming soon enough. We will just have to hunker down for a while longer. More hot beverages and biscuits are really in order.

Have a good evening!
Six more weeks, and I hope they pass quickly. I'm longing for the warmer temps to get here. Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

Stay warm!
I have friends in southern Iowa who have robins but we just don't have any yet.
