Old-timers in the South know this as Blackberry Winter, or Dogwood Winter, which mainly describes a brief period of cold weather that coincides with the time the blackberries are in bloom, or the dogwoods are blooming, (typically in early to mid May).
The colder temperatures, and three days of non-stop rain, have sent the birds back to the coziness of their nests.
There's nary a bird in sight.
The First Sergeant managed to clean out the pond before the rains came. Sitting on the bottom was a large frog, I'm not sure if it was Igor our amorous calling frog from last year, time will tell....

Our weather is backwards, isn't it? We are basking in full sun while you are having cool and cloudy weather. I'll actually be happy to see the weather turn around for both of us! :-)
Jo, It's cool here today. My hubby is in Tennessee fishing with his brothers. I hope he is having good weather. Friday and Saturday here was the most perfect weather...I would have loved a whole spring and summer as nice. Enjoy your birds when they come. xoxo,Susie
Lovely photos, Jo. This rain will bring you beautiful flowers.
Lovely photos and thoughts!
Your photos are beautiful. I love your header, too. We are having hot, sunny, typically summer weather for May. I doubt it will last but we'll take it. Hugs, Deb
My husband says this is Blackberry Winter. We have already had Dogwood Winter as the dogwood blooms are gone, and the blackberries are on the verge of being in bloom. Have we ever had the rain, too! Three inches in our rain gauge since yesterday! Still too wet for us to work at planting the garden.:-(
Have a good week, Jo!
Our weather has been the opposite, 87 degrees yesterday. More expected this week and there are things in bloom that we normally don’t see till early June.
Where did you get your toad house? It is so cute! I would love to get one! You have the most beautiful blog... the music is so relaxing!
