Hotter Than A Pepper Sprout

As with most of the country, we've endured relentless heat these early weeks of Summer.
Miss one day of watering, and the plants are shriveled beyond repair.

Nashville set an all-time record today with a high temperature of 109, breaking the old record by two degrees set back in 1952.
The sad part is, we have been without rain for the past three weeks, vegetable gardens are drying up, farmers are losing their crops, and wildlife are endlessly searching for a source of drinking water.

The splish-splash of the frog fountain heard at the pond, has attracted more than the birds this week.

We are having nightly visits from the deer population.

This afternoon a thirsty hawk visited not once, but three times.

We've filled the water trough and placed it down near the woods, hopefully the wildlife will seek it out.

That's not so nice to not have rain for that long. The poor wild-life. I always am sure to leave water for the feral cats here as we are also having very extreme high temperatures. Lovely photos on your post. Deb

I am so glad you have water for the creatures out there, Jo. So sad to think of the effects of the drought on all the living wildlife. I cannot imagine how the rest of this summer will play out. Awful to contemplate.

We have also had deer visiting our creek bank every day and I filled up 3 horse troughs with water for any other thirsty wild creatures. The heat is simply UNREAL. Pass the lemonade!

I have been putting out water for the birds, flowers, and my bees nightly. Our grass is brown and crunchy! Our heat wave is supposed to settle down a bit next week. Stay cool.

I saw on the news channel 2 website today that Nashville beat the heat record. Let's hope this doesn't become a trend for our area all summer long, yes? I like the idea of leaving water out for wildlife ~ I have seen several people on different blogs today say that they do this. Poor animals, this must be so hard for them. I'm going to put some extra water out at the wood's edge tomorrow.

Great pictures, wish I could send you over some of the rain we have been getting in England. Biblical rain, some English summer!

The days are pretty bad here too, but nights still ok with windows open (for now). Me too, water plants and animals daily - the birds call out their thanks the minute I appear.

We have had record-setting temperatures here for the past two days, and another one is predicted for today. We are in real need of rain, too. My husband has been watering the garden, or it would be lost for sure. It is good of you to think of water for the wildlife.

On my way to work today I was two coyotes and their babies on the side of the road....displaced maybe from the fires.

Dear Jo, I'll pray that you get some of our rain (droll smile).

I'm doing the same thing. It's awful. Poor babies.

It's a good thing you guys are there for the sweet animals! I always worry about them in the bad weather, too.

We're in the heat of summer here in Texas too but it's going to be a mere 99 degrees today which is considered a cold front!

Love the photos, we are filling up the bird bath three time a day and seeing lots of different birds.
At night the silly coons are dumping it over.

So sad for the flora and fauna. We are dry as a bone here too.

Oh what wonderful photos! We live in the Nashville area also and have had to water our garden just to keep it from drying up. Hopefully we will get some rain soon!

Praying for abreak in the HEAT. I was shocked this morning at the national weather picture. High pressure in the center of the US keeping the jet stream way north in Cannada. No break in the near future.
Fantastic Photos, water is so precious.

I saw four sets of deer on my walk this morning.
We had some at our place for a few days enjoying the cow's salt lick. :)

You must be very near me - I work in Nashville and live just north of there. Thank goodness, we're finally getting some relief from the heat and drought! We put out buckets for the deer, and dishes of water for the squirrels and bunnies; so nice to know we weren't the only ones.
