Out And About.

Yesterday, I found myself running the back roads.
I had errands to take care of in the next County, and the quickest way of getting there would have been to take the interstate.
I really don't care much for interstate traveling, despite the convenience and time saving of it all, I find myself in a nervous frenzy when I arrive at my destination. There is just something unnerving about traveling down the highway at seventy miles an hour, in the 'rocking chair' of four eighteen -wheelers.
Instead I usually opt to take the country roads. The scenery is much more friendly, and if I see something of interest, I have the luxury of enjoying it, and even pulling off to the side for a picture or two.

Totally agree with you about taking the back roads rather than the interstate. So much more interesting and less nerve racking as you said. My husband has a knack for finding the narrowest roads, which can be a little stressful when you meet another vehicle, but we love seeing the countryside. Thanks for the link! Wish we could get together for tea:)

I don't usually take my camera when I go out in the car, because otherwise I spend too much time looking at possibilities to photograph and find that I am not concentrating on driving!

Also agree about prefering back roads to any destination. Of course, I don't always see such beautiful sights as you do!!

You always take such lovely pictures ,I like them all.
I was wondering if you would mind if i used the old church pic and the barn as a subject to paint.I think they would make a lovely water colour painting. Please drop me a line about this on my blog,as i would not want to do it without your permission.

I'm the same way: I avoid the interstate if I am driving around town, although the traffic in town can be very stressful too. I love the deer pictures. Much nicer scenery. Oh, and BTW, happy birthday!

give me a country road anyday - I just wish I'd had a camera when I travelled the miles I did when I could drive.

Well done indeed, I used to teach photography in a club that started up in a town on the coast Dungarvan' With out getting to technical the best piece of advise I used to tell them was to always have your camera with you! And to go out and make photo's of what you like and know, ie, your own back yard, so to speak! You have managed to capture nature in all it's splendor. keep up the good work.

Beautiful pictures Jo... We love the BACK roads also. You see so much more!!!! Our deer are coming around more recently also. I even saw a buck once last week behind our house--but of course, didn't get his picture.

My good friends went to the Cedars of Lebanon not far from you last weekend and said that the colors were still pretty there. Our colors are GONE up here.

Hugs,
Betsy

I used to prefer the highway but now I have learned to slow down and enjoy the country roads. The scenery and your photographs are beautiful. Your blog always takes me to a peaceful joyous journey.

I LOVED that first picture..it looks like a painting!
We traveled to Florida last year and went east first to head down to Savannah. We took several secondary roads through the hills of Virginia and N. and S. Carolina..we saw beautiful scenery I am sure we would never have experienced if we had stayed on the interstate.
We do that all the time and have had wonderful adventures, really seeing America!

Your photos are just lovely. I grew up in the Herefordshire countryside and miss it. Not many backroads here in the Silicon Valley. :(

I completely agree with you about driving the interstates -- I try to avoid them whenever possible. You got some wonderful pictures along the back roads.

Ahhhhhhhhhh how pretty. I'm the opposite. When I'm driving I just want to get to where I'm going. But once there then I like to take my time and stroll around. Hugs

Good for you! I was on one of those highways in 1998 when our cousins brought us from Little Rock to Memphis. I have never felt such anxiety in a car before or since. The trucks especially were very frightening.

I love old churches and old buildings and you have many of them that are just beautiful. I especially like the door handle photo on your side bar.
