Dear Kitten

My daughter showed me this video yesterday, I couldn't help but think Oliver cat had something to do with it.
The cat-lovers amongst us will understand.

Simple Pleasures

Oftentimes, it pays to wait.
The sweetest of the season are now ripe for the picking ........
Summer strawberries.

Tom Kitten

A few days ago I mentioned we had been seeing a grey and white kitten scurrying around the garden, a tiny little thing, scared of it's own shadow.
I was sure it was abandoned or even maybe a feral.

He had been living under the potting shed, and if a person was to get too close, off he scampered to his safe little  hidey-hole.
We've coaxed him out with food and treats and toys and kind words, and even though he's still a little skittish, we are slowly gaining his trust.

He absolutely loves Oliver cat, I think he believes it's his long-lost mother. Oliver has been so kind, not one paw-slap, or hiss, just a 'roll his eyes' look of disbelief when this little fellow takes over the food bowl.

We think he's about four months old, still a mere baby. It always amazes me how these tiny bodies survive the elements, and live off the land.

I'm still asking around the neighborhood to see if anyone has lost this sweet baby. In the meantime we'll be working on his social skills, and those blessed fleas !

Summer Rain

We had rain today, a gentle-falling rain, the kind where you can use an umbrella without fear of it being turned inside out.
If you listened carefully you could hear the trees and flowers, heaving a big sigh of relief, their roots and foliage drinking in every last drop of moisture.

Porch-Sitting

Ooh, it's been a glorious day......
One of those days, where the temperature has cooled, and the humidity has returned to the point of tolerable.
A breezy porch-sitting day.

Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit.
A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world.

Double Trouble

There has been a tiny kitten, showing up on the porch. A grey and white bundle of fur, no more than a few months old.
I've tried to coax it to stay awhile, but once it feels threatened, off it goes.
The neighbors are not familiar with it, so I'm wondering if it's a little feral and homeless.

The First Sergeant set the humane trap, thinking if it is a hungry little kitten, it will partake of the food, instead when we checked the trap, this is what was inside.
Twin banditos.......

All Aboard

My sweet daughter surprised me with a new birdhouse.
A little bit of 'home' hanging in the tree.

I treated myself to a shiny new potting shed light. It gives a  lovely warm glow to the garden, especially at night.

The Morning Glory vines have taken over. The grasshoppers seem to think we planted them just for their enjoyment.

We need rain. None in the last two weeks, crops are drying out and lawns are brown and brittle.

I hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend.

Timeless Treasures

I have a fondness for English Staffordshire Ware.
One look at those pastoral village scenes, and I'm transported back to my grandmother's kitchen, where her cupboard displayed shelf upon shelf of these timeless treasures.
I can see the kitchen table covered in a freshly-starched embroidered tablecloth, the milk-jug sitting atop, awaiting the first of many pots of tea served throughout the day.
Treasured memories of gentler times........

One of my favorite collections are from the Alfred Meakin "Tintern" series.
I'm drawn to their bucolic scenes from years gone by.

Let's put the kettle on and we'll all have tea !

Sweet Revenge

When I have more on my 'to do' list than I seem to accomplish I eat chocolate.
Cake, chocolate bars, chocolate digestive biscuits, I'm not picky, I scoff the lot.
I put it down to desperation, and all those years of being around 'sweets' in a bakery, right there at my fingertips just for the taking.
Old habits are hard to break. *sigh*
