Bee-ing Busy

The garden is all abuzz, with bees, and butterflies, lightning bugs and ladybugs.
All so very busy dutifully distributing the pollen amongst the flowers.
I thank them more than words can say.

Like trains of cars on tracks of plush
I hear the level bee:
A jar across the flowers goes,
Their velvet masonry
Withstands until the sweet assault
Their chivalry consumes,
While he, victorious, tilts away
To vanquish other blooms.
His feet are shod with gauze,
His helmet is of gold;
His breast, a single onyx
With chrysoprase, inlaid.
His labor is a chant,
His idleness a tune;
Oh, for a bee's experience
Of clovers and of noon!

~ Emily Dickinson : The Bee (1830)

The Cat Days Of Summer

The Sounds Of Summer

"The steady buzzzzzzz of the Katydid chorus,
the bass solo of the croaking Frog,
the steady woof-woof-woof of a barking Dog
- a summer night's serenade."

~Michael P. Garofalo : Cuttings

June in Bloom

Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.

Spring Rains

We've had rain every day for the past week.
Flowers love the rain, and unfortunately grass does too.
It's not a good idea to mow wet grass, so mowing in between showers has been challenging.
I've idled away in the potting shed, cool, rainy days remind me of England. *sigh*

The difference a year has made, we now have grass growing around the limestone steps.

I've replaced the moss in the window-baskets, so far the little bird -bandit has not helped herself.

Sunshine Days

"Dirty hands, iced tea, garden fragrances thick in the air and a blanket of color before me, who could ask for more ?"

The Fairest Month

"Mine is the Month of Roses; yes, and mine
The Month of Marriages! All pleasant sights
And scents, the fragrance of the blossoming vine,
The foliage of the valleys and the heights.
Mine are the longest days, the loveliest nights;
The mower's scythe makes music to my ear;
I am the mother of all dear delights;
I am the fairest daughter of the year."

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
