Observing

A beautiful summer's day today.
Lower temperatures, and soft gentle rain, of which is greatly appreciated.
In-between showers, sunbursts and gentle breezes, makes for happy flowers.
Not so pretty, but necessary, wire cages enclose all flowers and shrubs that the deer like to eat.
We had new visitors to the garden today, two mother-hen wild turkeys with their babies, happily plodding along by their sides.
The momma deer,  finally decided to share her new fawn with us, after much anticipation.
Turkeys are becoming a rarity in several Tennessee counties that were once in abundance, it's a sweet pleasure to know they are still here amongst us.
Hope all is well and sweet, in your little corner of the world.

Late Spring Days

Rain has finally made a show, and ooh,  how the flowers were happy !
The temperatures fell to a cozy fifty nine degrees last night, perfect for opening up the windows, and falling asleep to the sounds of the tree frogs and the crickets.
Not to be outdone the hoot owl adds his own repertoire to the nightly chorus.
Many of the perennials are losing their brilliance, a sure sign that rainfall has been a scarcity.
The Autumn Joy sedum however, is turning a delicious shade of crimson.

Long May She Reign

Her Majesty the Queen's sixty sixth Coronation celebration today.
2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth II ascended the throne at the age of 25  upon the death of her father, George VI.
I remember in the late fifties waving my little Union Jack flag as she passed by my infant school in her royal procession, school children lined the streets.
I thought she was the most beautiful lady I had ever seen.
God Save The Queen.

Porch-Sitting

Incredible blue skies and sunshine today. Lots of the stuff, it surely feels like we are in the midst of summer with this 92 degree heat.
We have our little great-granddaughter today, so after a few short walks around the garden, it's going to be a day of porch-sitting, and lots of hugs and kisses.
I'm glowing.....

Through The Garden Gate

We are in for a week of HOT weather, the kind more suited to late summer days.
The songbirds have taken to their nests, they have been busily feathering and fluffing.
Schoolchildren are excited to close the books on another school year.
The Lightning Bugs have returned, twinkling their way through the darkness.
And the rhythm of life continues....
