Lest We Forget

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

In Flanders Fields ~ Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

Dedicated to all the brave men and women whose unselfish sacrifices and bravery shall never be forgotten.
Thank You.

Always a beautiful and haunting poem. May we always recall the sacrifices made for us.

I wore my poppy pin proudly yesterday, and I always get emotional when I read that poem. Thank you for it.

Yes, I wish! I am in Colorado. My sister sent your blog to me, with the Flanders Field poem. What a lovely way to recognize Veterans' Day (or Armistice Day, as my historically minded husband calls it).
May I subscribe to your blog?

I am a former Southerner (if that is possible, for someone born in the deep South). I love things Southern and things British. My grandmother showed me how to search our family tree. We have Brits, Scots, Irish and even some French ancestors. We are all one!
Love your blog.
