When I was younger, I planted annuals until the cows came home, but I've learned throughout the years, that planting a pot one time, and having it return year after year, is far easier than the ritual of planting annuals.
My newest perennial is Columbine "Winky Blue and White". Aquilegia vulgaris
A delicious little ornamental flowering plant, which blooms midspring to midsummer.
It's a companion plant for Bleeding Heart, Delphinium, and Peony, and best of all it's a deer resistant plant !
I need all the help I can get with deer resistance.

I hear you on deer resistance! Being on an old farm with abandoned fields turned meadows filled with wildflowers (and ticks... YUCK!) I know up close and personal about deer! Spring has barely arrived up here in New Hampshire but I sure am looking forward to the coming green! :D

I have the same columbine and love them too, but......the rabbits just eat the buds and flowers, they leave the stems.
Jo, I still do annuls for pops of color. But the truth is the older I get the less I want to fuss with them. So I am trying to get the flowerbeds to be all perennials. That deer sure is brazen. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

I am learning that to about perennials versus annuals lol ! I wish the deer would visit our yard but Miggs keeps most at bay and the deer here are quite skittish lol ! Lovely photos , Thanks for sharing , Have a good day .
When we lived in Texas we had to buy deer resistance. Not so here so much building going on the deer's have left.

I don't bother with annuals, I prefer the greens of ivies, hostas, ferns etc,

That looks like a great deer feeder. I bet that if you fed them that they would still like you flowers best. I have wild columbine in my garden but the hybrids I have never had any success in growing.
