Upstairs Downstairs

Each Spring the Bluebirds move into their nesting box and start a new family.
It is nestled beneath the arbor, and sheltered from harm by a lush canopy of  creamy white roses and purple clematis vine.
If we are lucky, and can keep the squirrels at bay, a new generation of Bluebirds become part of our landscape.

The location has caught the eye of Mrs. Robin, and she has become smitten.
So much so, that she has boldly gathered sticks and mud, and built herself a sturdy little nest right on top of the nesting box roof.
This should be interesting.

This could be good...or maybe not. If they get along it will be really wonderful to watch the babies grow. I do hope they become good neighbours and don't cause a ruckus.

Oh my goodness.
We keep having to evict a robin from one of the outhouses. Every time the door is left open it flies in and starts prospecting..

Strange companions! Somehow I don't think the bluebirds will be welcoming their new neighbors!

How funny!
Our bluebirds are back - love them! Our barn swallows haven't appeared yet. Last year the bluebirds and swallows peacefully shared a 3 condo-type box. I've never seen that before, and I'm interested to see what the arrangements will be this year.

I do hope these two mothers work things out and raise their offspring without conflict!

This might work, since robins and bluebirds are fairly mellow. Will be interesting to watch what happens.

That should be interesting. We finally have bluebirds interested in our little box after 2 years of hanging. Can't wait!

Oh that is so cool and I love the look of your bird box. Exciting to think there will be two families living there.

My mum tells me about all the Bluebirds of her youth here in Portland, but alas this city has grown so much since then that the Bluebird can no longer be found.

Jo, Now you will have to keep us posted about the birds. That is so crazy. I have hoped one day we would get bluebirds...they have been around but never in the little house we have for them.

Hello! Bluebirds and robins what a delight to see these little birds. The nest making is amazing. I wonder what mother will be nesting first.

This could be very interesting indeed. Hopefully they live peacefully. At least now there will be two sets of parents guarding the box from predators.
