The cottage homes of England/By thousands on her plains."
~ Felicia Hermans
The Little Home
To shelter friends who come to call.
Though low the roof and small its space
It holds the Lord's abounding grace,
And every simple room may be
Endowed with happy memory.
The little house, severely plain,
A wealth of beauty may contain.
Within it those who dwell may find
High faith which makes for peace of mind,
And that sweet understanding which
Can make the poorest cottage rich.
The little house can hold all things
From which the soul's contentment springs.
'Tis not too small for love to grow,
For all the joys that mortals know,
For mirth and song and that delight
Which make the humblest dwelling bright.

Lovely poem and picture ! I love the little cottages and villages in England . Have a good day !
A wonderful poem! Beautiful picture, too. England is someplace I'd love to visit at some point, yet my pennies just don't seem to stretch far enough to get there and back via boat.:-)
I hope you are having a good Monday!
I love English cottages and that poem has always been one of my favorites. Have a lovely evening.

Nothing too awfully humble about that beautiful cottage, Jo. Lovely poem and picture... :-)
Who wouldn't want to live there? I'm ready!
Oh my.... I would love to plop that cottage down in the woods on my farm. Just a nice spot for me and some quiet time!
I miss all the little English villages. The oldest we have here are a collection of log cabin homes set up like a village - very basic and without charm.

Wonderful !!! I love cottages and cottage gardens. My great gardening idol was Geoff Hamilton. He made such beautiful cottage gardens !!
