In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
In Flanders Fields ~ Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)
Dedicated to all the brave men and women whose unselfish sacrifices and bravery shall never be forgotten.
Thank You.

beautiful photo...beautiful words
Thank you for a beautiful post. The veteran who used to sell poppies in our town died in the last year - I need to find another seller.
Oh my what beautiful words. They brought cold chills to me..Love the photo too.
My Dad was a WWII veteran, and he died on Veteran's Day. It is a meaningful day for me. Thank you for this post.
A day in the century ... beautiful picture !
I've always loved this beautiful haunting poem. It brings tears to my eyes thinking of all those brave souls who gave their lives for the price of freedom.
Spectacular shot.

A salute and pat on the back to your husband on veterans day from me Jo.
thank you to all who have fought and continue to fight for freedom. My father-in-law was in the Navy during WWII, and my son, his grandson, is now in the Navy stationed in Japan. Really miss him, but we are so proud of his service to our country. Thank you Pop and Michael!
Thank you so much for this, Jo. I am remembering today, and this magical 11/11/11 number that greets me as I arise! God bless our veterans, every one.
HERE<HERE! The poem says it all, "take up the torch and hold it high".
God bless those who sacrifice so much for the country. It is sometimes too easy to take them for granted, but we mustn't.
You said it all .
We will never forget ! Lovely post and photo.
Hello - I have just popped over from Willow's blog. Your poem today is one of my favourite images of Remembrance Day. I has been a solemn day here in the Yorkshire Dales.
Nice to meet you.
Dear Jo, Love your tribute to all our veterans. Susie
Beautiful field of poppies, perfect for that poem.
