"How innocent were these Trees, that in
Mist-green May, blown by a prospering breeze,
Stood garlanded and gay;
Who now in sundown glow
Of serious colour clad confront me with their show
As though resigned and sad,
Trees, who unwhispering stand umber, bronze, gold;
Pavilioning the land for one grown tired and old;
Elm, chestnut, aspen and pine, I am merged in you,
Who tell once more in tones of time,
Your foliaged farewell."-
~October Trees: Siegfried Sassoon.

This is a marvelous view. The next best thing to being there. I really like the yellow and when you are actually there the light has a yellow cast to it. Great work.
Lovely poem. I know you must be having some beautiful color right now. Have a great weekend.
That tree is perfection itself. Until yesterday when we had a huge windstorm, we had lots of leaves on the trees, and now they are in the storm drains. Thanks for the comment on my blog, I'm hoping I won't have to have a hysterectomy. Depends on what the ultrasound shows. I appreciate your concern! Thanks again.
You are an excellent poet.
OOPS. I just saw the credit you included for the poem. Well, you picked out a good poem even if you didn't write it. :D
Gorgeous Jo... Where did you take that picture? I love the beautiful Fall colors.
Hugs,
Betsy
You couldn't have chosen a more appropriate picture to match that poem! A strong wind hit us last weekend and took all of our leaves with it! Now we are bare until spring!
Breath-taking picture of those trees!
Autumn always makes me miss my mother. Even in her final years and demented state of mind, she would marvel at the colors of Autumn leaves. she would make me pull off the road just so she could soak it all in. (Hmmm that may become a post! Who knows?)
The poetry was beautiful! Thanks JO for another post and beautiful music!
Well done, as always!
I can't believe how cold it has turned here. We have had the heat going all day for the first time this year. Me thinks it might be a bad winter.
I'm headed to my son's trailer tomorrow. He wants me to hang out with him and pick out paint colors for his living room.
Then we are going to my mom's for dinner.
Hope you have a very nice weekend. Stay warm and hugs to you.
Breathtaking view of the autumn leaves on a road...one of my favorite scenes to photograph too!!!!
Loved the poem, too.
Your photo is breathtakingly beautiful. It's a perfect autumn picture.
Fabulous post .... and the colours of those trees ... just breathtaking.
The first picture of the avenue of trees is just stunning.We get autumn colours but nothing as beautiful as this,perhaps our very wet climate has something to do with it.I am envious of your lovely autumn.
I would love to take a walk down that Lane, beautiful.
Patsy
What a glorious Autumn picture and lovely words.
Sunny :)
Yes, put that kettle on!
Perfect post! Visually gorgeous and lovely poetic thoughts!
Great shots, great colours, and a poem from one of the great war poets. Well done indeed.
I quite agree with Betsy, but then again you are always so good at choosing great pictures. I love to come here and just get cozy or inspired by your sidebar alone.
A great poet, one of my favourites. A very brave man, too. We picked one of Sassoon's poems to be read at our wedding--very moving.
Great photo, too!
