A Feline Visitor.

To say I'm a cat-lover would be an understatement, I adore cats.
The first cat that I was owned by, came from a family of feral cats on my uncle's allotment.
A bundle of yellow fur, mum and I transported him home in my dolly's pram.

I had to hold him with one hand and push the pram with the other, when I arrived home, my arm was nothing short of a bloody mess, he did not take kindly to humans.
I didn't care, I had my cat.
We named him Brandy, he used up most of his nine lives, and lived to the age of nineteen.

Last year, I lost both of my dear cats to illness. I longed for another, yet despite that urge held off making the commitment.
I think I just needed down-time.

In the middle of winter sitting on the porch and enjoying the Christmas lights, I heard a faint "meow".
A small orange and white cat appeared out of nowhere. I gave him a treat, petted him endlessly, and smiled.
Those familiar feelings, made me feel whole again.
I didn't see him again until this week.

Out of the blue, same friendly greeting, only this time a grown cat. If he could speak "human", I dare say he his words would have been
" Hello, I'm back, remember me ?"
He's been here for three days.
I think he may have a family, I'm going to ask around, if not I think I may have found my next cat, or he has found me....

I call him Oliver "Ollie" for short, he doesn't seem to mind, just as long as he gets petted, and there are plenty of treats.

I just found you after reading another blog, A Scot in TN and you have become my favorite blog EVER! I totally love your photos, music, quotes, etc. My Mum was born in Scotland, I currently live in TN, I went to art school but am not an artist,I seem to love everything you love and so reading and listening to your blog is a joy. I'll take that cup of tea now, thanks! I write about my partners cancer in my blog, not so very interesting, but it's led me to meet all these other wonderful folks in blogland. Thanks again, Carol D in Cosby, TN

Oh Jo, I do hope he's yours. You know my lot with feral cats. Last night, I came across an ad in a small farms catalog which sells feral cat birthcontrol. It's on-line and I'm going to give it a try. Let's hope it works. I love all my cats - barn and house, but I don't want to turn into the old cat lady with hundreds in her house.

I love cats too Jo and can't imagine my life without one. My little cat, Patch, was in a fight last night and has come home badly injured. I may be off to the vets tomorrow.
I love your new arrival. Let's hope he stays...
Blessings, Star

I love this post Jo.

Like you I had waifs and stray cats when I was little and always wrapped them up in shawls and wheeled them about in the dolls' pram. Luckily mine didn't seem to object too much so I was scratch free mostly.

My husband wasn't a cat lover so we had no cats until about twenty years ago when a kitten was on its way to the vet to be put to sleep. That's how I acquired Tom. Sadly he was run over when he was just 3 but I still think of him. Seeing your Ollie reminded me so much of him, such a gorgeous deep orange contrasting with pure white. He looks so lovely settled on that chair. He's in cat heaven I think.

Maybe he's found the right time for you so I hope he stays and gives you as much joy as my little Thomas did.

Don't know if you've read it or not, but Sonja Fitzpatrick wrote a book in 2003 Cat Talk-Communicating With your Cat.
In it she talks about cats finding the homes they want rather than where they actually belong.
Looks like he found his new home.

How cute. Our neighbor's tabby (Marmalade) comes over and visits with us all the time. His owners are gone a lot and they just leave him outdoors when they leave, so we take him indoors with us when it is cold. He is so sweet. We feel like he belongs to us.

I hope she stays as she looks like a very nice cat. We all need at least one cat. I hope it all works out.

I see he doesnt have a collar... so its likely he isn't owned by anyone - unless he is chipped? Here's hoping he's a stray. It sounds like Ollie has landed on his feet! He'll be slapping his paws together and looking forward to a life on easy street from now on.

I will probably be a dotty old lady with hundreds of kitties one day. How sweet that he came back, I think he has chosen you now.

Oh how wonderful. I just love yellow cats. I am a huge cat lover too but alas we are cat free for now. The Hubby is not a fan but since we have been married now for nearly 34 years I have made him live with cat for about 30 of those years. We lost the last three of our last four kitties about 5 years ago and I so miss them. I hope Ollie stays around, he looks so very sweet.

The first cat i had,as a teenager, was called smokey because he was grey.He found me by following me home from school. He used to sit on my shoulder when i was doing my homework.
Our last cat, called puss, got into the castle and Pam was not fond of cats so we had to find him.The cat went into panic mode, and ran onto the flat roof,as we tried to coax him down he decided to jump off.We were sure he would not have survived, but he 'flew' like a flying squirrel and survived.I think he used all his nine lives in one go.
Your ginger guest looks adorable,i hope he decides to stay with you.

I love cats too. Last winter, one gave birth under our house to three little black and white kittens, who looked just like their mom. When a neighbor spotted them, the kittens were about 6-7 weeks old so we put out food and water on our front porch. They still live there, comfy on the cusions in the summer, and warm in a nice little house we made for the winter. We've had them fixed, so I think they'll be with us forever now.

He's chosen well. Cats are able to find their way into our hearts very quickly, aren't they? The picture of him curled up in the chair is priceless. I think you have your next cat...

I'm sure you are aware that I have a son called ollie, but for all his life we have had at least one cat of sorts. we currantly have a black tom cat that has a bionic leg joint, the result of a run in with a car! We rescued him from the vet's who had put an add in a local window. Before him we had two cats Ronnie and Reggie, who were as you can imagine were brothers, and like there infamous name sakes were both murderous in there attack on the local bird population. My son Oli put up a score chart for each on the fridge door and kept score. But both became victims of the Automobile, hence how why we got brian. Will have to put up photo's of said cats on blog!

Indeed, Ollie has chosen well! We have 3 cats and love them each dearly. I hope everything works out for Ollie to stay home with you!
