Tick Tock....

Hickory, dickory, dock,
The mouse ran up the clock,
The clock struck one,
The mouse was gone,
Hickory dickory, dock.

This is our grandfather clock.

A Christmas present from The First Sergeant some 27 years ago.
It's a Ridgeway, pendulum wind, with Westminster Chimes, and has tick-tocked the hours away in perfect time for all these years.

I fall asleep at night listening to it ticking away the minutes. Awaking in the morning, to it's melodious strike every fifteen and thirty minutes, and finally on the hour with the Westminster chimes.

It's a sound you get used to hearing. When it is silent, it's as if something is amiss, I notice it immediately.

Much like an old friend, it's just a heartbeat away.

That's a lovely clock Jo. I used to work in a house that had lots of those and I came to love them and their ticking. Some of them ticked out of time, so the whole house was a cacophony of ticking and chiming and I loved it. It was like being surrounded by old friends.
I had a bacon butty for breakfast just now and dedicated it to you.
Blessings, Star

I love grandfather clocks! I wish I had a place for one....no room in our house. We have several other antique clocks here and there...but my husband does NOT like the sound of them at night...it keeps him awake.
He would die at one that made striking noises every 15 minutes!!!
Thus, all of our beautiful gingerbread clocks are NOT wound and are not running.

We have a nice one too but The Hubby doesn't let it chime since it is so close to our bedroom. Keeps him awake...so sad, only the tick tock we hear.

Lovely Time Piece you have there to enjoy. Like the beaded board in your room.

Donna: you are correct ! just like an old friend.

Star: Yes, we love clocks. I have several and all tick tocking away. I'm sure it would make some people mad.
I love cuckoo clocks also, we have three of them, I'll do a post about them soon.
Aaah my bacon butty, thank you dear friend, did it have HP sauce on it ? Glad your enjoying yourself !

Gena: Thank you !

Benny and Patsy: If I had the space I think I would have a couple more standing around :)

Carol: I remember when my brother came to visit, it drove him crazy tick tocking away in the night, but he never told us until he went back to England....

The Retired One: oh I'm glad my husband enjoys them also. I would feel sad seeing the clock sitting there and not running. My husband's uncle has one, and it has only been running one day, they couldn't stand the noise.

Jill of all trades: It's funny how I don't hear it at night. Yet, if it happens to be stopped, I listen for it, and immediately know it is not running.

Deanna: Thank you. The beaded walls I've enjoyed, sometimes I think i will paint them a different color, but then give up on the idea.
They are only in the area of the house that is the den, and hallway, the reaminder is wallpaper, so it breaks it up where it's not too dark.

I know what you mean about a sound being so familiar that you don't hear it, but when it stops, you immediately hear its absence. I thought of the song about the grandfather clock that stopped when the old man died. I loved that sound but have never been in the presence of a lovely old clock like this -- until now. Thank you!

Oh Jo---I HEART that so much!!!! If I could have one other thing in my home I would choose a grandfather clock... I want an OLD one ---one that they used to call a Tall Clock. OH---how I would love to hear yours.

I have three chiming clocks in my Great Room --but no big one.... If you get tired of it, let me know!!!!! ha

The mouse is over at my son's house. He's very upset with Mr. Mouse.

I can remember my mother's clock ticking away when I was little.

DJan: Yes, you do get used to the sound of things, only to be missed when they are silent.

Old Centennial Farmhouse: Thank you for your kind comment, I have similarly visited your little place, and feel exactly the same.

Betsy from TN: Yes, I know what the tall clocks look like, I love them. I always wanted an antique solid case clock but only have room for one....and this one is special to me.

Dave Pie n Mash: So glad you like the sound of them...I think they are so peaceful.

Southern Drawl: Glad you like it also. How's the new job going ?

Patti Cakes: He is welcome to the mouse, I'll keep the clock :) may need to get a cat !

What a beautiful clock Jo, I would love one. The closest I came loving the ticking of an old clock was at my grandmother's, a beautiful big old wall clock was was almost as big as the stand-on-the-floor kind. I loved the melodic tick of it and the chimes.
