Summer Rain

We had rain last night, an unexpected thunder storm that popped up out of nowhere.
It didn't last long, a mere thirty minutes, but ooh was it a welcomed sight.
If you listened carefully you could hear the trees and flowers, heaving a big sigh of relief, their roots and foliage drinking in every last drop of moisture.
The temperatures fell, and for the first time in several weeks we enjoyed a tolerable 81degrees.

How lovely is that !

How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!

How it clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!

Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Ah...and I am happy for you.

RAIN!

There is a scripture that says that it rains on the just and the unjust. And MOST people tend to think that in that context RAIN=HARDSHIP.

And sometimes they are right.

However sometimes I think the word RAIN has been heinously maligned.

The older I get, the more I am inclined to think of rain as a BLESSING rather than a HARDSHIP.

And so, perhaps if it rains on the just and the unjust, that might very well mean that Blessings come to the just and the unjust.

Either way ya choose to look it at, I am so very glad that you got rain.

And as ALWAYS, your poetry selection was PERFECT!

In Him,
Grace

That was a lovely poem & gorgeous photo. Rain is great, in small doses!

We're wondering whether it's ever going to stop raining here in the UK & it's been so cold too. Everything is getting cancelled & flooding is awful in some parts. Haven't had to water the plant pots at all this summer. The Olympics are going to be a washout if it doesn't improve soon. Just as well the Centre Court at Wimbledon has its roof now or we wouldn't have seen Andy Murray get through to the final.

Well the forecast for tomorrow is 64F & sunny for part of the day. A veritable heatwave! It's not going to last though!

Doesn't get any better than that! Our sky darkened almost as if night had come early, the wind just about blew the yard away, lightning was arching to the ground in the southeast, and not a drop of rain fell on our patch of thirsty heaven.

Rain! What a blessing on this hot, parched earth! However, an hour from us there was a severe storm with many downed trees.
