I am so, so sorry, for I have done the very...Oh no. I am so, so sorry, for I have done the very same thing. Do you have time to read my story?

On January 25, 2007, I stepped out of my house early Sunday morning to get the morning newspaper. I knew that there was patch of ice somewhere hiding under a very thin layer of snow. I guessed wrong and my foot slipped. I fell hard, but didn't hit my head on the cement step, thankfully. I began yelling for help. My husband would never hear me for he was asleep on the second floor of the house with his c-pap machine on, making enough noise that I wouldn't wake him. Lucky the neighbors heard me yelling. They came over and helped get me in the house and called the paramedics.

I suffered a bimalleolar fracture of my left ankle which required two screws on the inside of the ankle and plate on outside of the ankle, secured with six screws. I was in the hospital for 5 days, mostly because the insurance company could not decide where to send me. I needed physical therapy, as you, so they sent me to a nursing home, where they really didn't know what to do with me.

Ten days in, I was begging to go home. The doctor reluctantly sent me home where I spent 15 weeks in my family room. The house was multilevel with stairs to each level, so I couldn't navigate the stairs. My husband set up the day bed in the family room and my daughter bought me a lap top, which saved my life. I rediscovered how to crochet. I went to physical therapy, my mother in law came at lunch to feed me. I couldn't use crutches, so I used a walker and a wheel chair when I left the house. I missed and entire semester of work. I did have a small bathroom, but no shower.

Good news. I healed. The ankle is good as new. Sometimes it hurts a bit, but while it took longer than normal to heal, it works. I didn't blog then, but I did lots of research on how to speed up the healing process for bone that wouldn't mend itself, not finding results, but lots of those who suffered the same break. I began not to feel so alone. Lots of trips to the doctor, a heavy walking boot that I couldn't walk in, physical therapy three times a week. My husband was wonderful, learning how to cook, cleaning, doing laundry, taking time off of work to take me to therapy. He applied for time off from work through the Family Leave Act. (FMLA).

As your rug so aptly says, "keep calm and carry on." Your blog friends will help you get through this injury. I'll be checking in. Good luck.annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01668006270534204954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2239437409050334506.post-78931872382083962512016-02-19T07:13:20.601-06:002016-02-19T07:13:20.601-06:00I haven't read the last post yet and i'm s...I haven't read the last post yet and i'm so sorry for you.....I hope you will feel better soon...
Good luck and take your time....
