Slowly Changing

 “Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile."
John Howard Bryant

Autumn has well and truly arrived.
Cold frost-laden nights, and sun shining brighter than a new penny by day.
Flower pots are emptied and stacked in the potting shed, and leaves are continually raked.
Hearty stews and soups have taken the place of lighter fare, and the fireplace has been lit more than once, this past week.

I entered this world on a cool autumn evening, day's such as this are like a coming home of sorts, a kinship to my genetic roots.

So lovely and peaceful, with gentle words for a kind and graceful moment in time. :-)

My favorite thing about autumn is the golden leaves overflowing on the lawns. Most will rake them up quickly, but I love seeing them turn the neat civilized lawns into riots of tumbling color.

Jo, I love this post. It is so pretty in your area. I used to rake leaves with joy, for the exercise and to clean my yard when we lived in town. Out here is a lot of work and I just can't keep up at times. We have a sycamore tree and if three leaves fall off it ,well you better rake. The leaves are as big as umbrellas.. LOL Enjoy what time we have left before the snows fly. I sure am going to try to get a bit more done here. Blessings , xoxo, Susie

Saturday we spent most of the day outside washing windows, pruning trees, cleaning up the pots. It is such a beautiful time of year. We have had two light frosts so far.

You need to be a writer. I've said it before, you have a wonderful way with words. I love that wooden bench. It looks so inviting. Your yard looks so peaceful no matter what the season brings. You have a wonderful day my friend, hugs, Edna .

I love the gate! Our yard is covered in big brown leaves and I haven't started raking yet. It is almost overwhelming. We should have cut more trees in the yard when the cabin was built. Your place is so beautiful.
