Simple Days

"Don't let yourself get so busy that you miss those little but important extras in life ~
the beauty of a day...
the smile of a friend...
the serenity of a quiet moment alone.
For it is often life's smallest pleasures and gentlest joys that make the biggest and most lasting difference."

Friendships

I've been spending time catching up on long-overdue visits with friends.
You know how it is, we all seem to get caught up in the everyday comings and goings of life, and before you realize it,  half the year has passed.
There have been wedding showers, and baby showers, school graduations and birthday celebrations, lots of reasons for get-togethers and endless hours of tea-drinking and giggling.

I've met new friends, and forged new relationships, but there is something to be treasured about the ease of spending time with an old friend.
Of being in the company of someone who knows you inside and out, and you them, in the way that just seems to happen, when months turn into years, and years turn into a lifetime.

It’s like a massage for the soul. You have no idea how much tension you’re carrying around until you’re in an environment so comfortable that it all drains away.

Growing

We are so fortunate to have kind neighbors.
On a daily basis our two kitties walk next door to say hello.
We buy treats for each others pets, despite not owning a dog myself, I buy dog treats every month for her dog Crimson, and my neighbor buys cat treats for my cats.
I opened up my email this morning, and this is what was staring at me..........
Courtesy of my neighbor.
Sweet.

Forgotten

And when the winds moan wildly,
When the woods are bare and brown
And when the swallow’s clay-built nest
From the rafter crumbles down;
When all the untrod garden-paths
Are heaped with frozen leaves,
And icicles, like silver spikes,
Are set along the eaves;

Spring Forward

What a difference a day makes.
Yesterday the ground was blanketed in snow, today we are blessed with blue skies and sunshine.
The snow melted, and I was able to run a few much-needed errands.
Our little town was once again alive and bustling.

Tonight our annual clock fiddling takes place once again.
An hour forward to Daylight Savings Time, payback for that extra hour of sleep, we enjoyed so much back in November.

I'm feeling the urge to start digging in the soil, but I know that March can be a fickle month. One minute the sun warming your face, the next, the wind cutting you in two.
I did however buy a pair of new porch cushions today, all flowery and pleasing to the eye, they remind me that Spring is not too far away.

Winter Contentment

Another round of storms are headed our way just as many folks are getting their utilities restored, after the last round of snow and ice disrupted service.
 *sigh*
I'm grateful to stay home, snug inside.

Winter Rain

The weather has warmed.
The rain has washed away any signs of lingering snow and ice.
The Robins are feeding on earthworms, the ground once again soft and wet.
A dark and cozy Winter day, to be savored.

" The best kind of rain, of course, is a cozy rain.
This is the kind the anonymous medieval poet makes me remember, the rain that falls on a day when you'd just as soon stay in bed a little longer, write letters or read a good book by the fire, take early tea with hot scones and jam and look out the streaked window with complacency. "

~Susan Allen Toth, England For All Seasons
