March Lambs

I found myself running an unexpected errand today to the big city of Nashville.
It's a bustling, noisy city, full of all that cities have to offer, and the ever present feel of Country Music.

The home of President Andrew Jackson lies within view along my route, the fields are green with new growth, and the surrounding farms are home to flocks of new Spring lambs.
Is there anything sweeter, than a field of Spring lambs prancing about their mothers.

Young Lambs
The spring is coming by a many signs;
The trays are up, the hedges broken down
That fenced the haystack, and the remnant shines
Like some old antique fragment weathered brown.
And where suns peep, in every sheltered place,
The little early buttercups unfold
A glittering star or two - till many trace
The edges of the blackthorn clumps in gold.
And then a little lamb bolts up behind
The hill, and wags his tail to meet the yoe;
And then another, sheltered from the wind,
Lies all his length as dead - and lets me go
Close by, and never stirs, but basking lies,
With legs stretched out as though he could not rise.

Sounds like a nice trip to the city Jo. The art and the poem were beautifully matched. I used to have farming friends who often took newborn lambs into their kitchen by the fire and would let me feed them bottles of milk. It is one of those lovely memories that makes me smile every time I think of it.

Yes, wonderful. I saw my first lambs in the field yesterday. I also saw a field with all black sheep in it, no lambs yet.
You may have heard we have a terrible virus over here in England this Spring. A lot of our lambs are being born deformed or dead. That is so sad. Sheep have a hard life, if you ask me!

We awakened to several inches of fresh fallen snow this morning here in Idaho. But there are little lambs and calves in the surrounding fields, so it can still feel a bit like spring!

The best thing about lambs is their giddy joy.They are daffily overtaken by leaps and gamboling.

We have friends who live in Hermitage and I know the road past Andrew Jackson's home well. I think I need to go out with my camera and look for spring lambs! Jim

I thought of lambs today when I saw all the spring things, and I also thought of you when I saw a coffee cup with 'Keep Calm and Carry On' on its side. I do hope you're doing well, and enjoying your day!

Hi There, Just trying to catch up a little. We've been out-of-town for a week in Arkansas...

Hope you all are okay after all of the scary storms. We are fine here--but there was a tornado in our county... Too close for comfort.
Hugs,
Betsy
