Cottage Dreaming

The cottage homes of England/By thousands on her plains."
~ Felicia Hermans

The Little Home

The little house is not too small
To shelter friends who come to call.
Though low the roof and small its space
It holds the Lord's abounding grace,
And every simple room may be
Endowed with happy memory.

The little house, severely plain,
A wealth of beauty may contain.
Within it those who dwell may find
High faith which makes for peace of mind,
And that sweet understanding which
Can make the poorest cottage rich.

The little house can hold all things
From which the soul's contentment springs.
'Tis not too small for love to grow,
For all the joys that mortals know,
For mirth and song and that delight
Which make the humblest dwelling bright.

When I see your pictures like this one and read your poems, I can tell that you really, really miss your England. It will always be your England, you know, however long you've lived over there! I don't seem to be able to stay away for long. I cannot envisage ever not being able to walk along the lanes between the fields, enjoying the smell of honeysuckle on a balmy summer's day in England! To hear the little robins sing always fills my heart with joy.
I love my Tennessee mountain home, but my heart belongs in England.

Your blog is also a wonderful place to call home. Every time I come over here I feel good and know it will be beautiful. Always.

Beautiful post!!

Drop by my blog at Friendshiptea.net to see my post from a couple of days ago. I highlighted English cottage memories from our travels. We love travel in England and staying in self-catering cottages.

What a lovely verse! Some day I would love to visit England and see it's lovely countryside instead of just enjoying beautiful pictures of it!

Jo, The cottages of England tug at my heart as does the poem. I'm such an Anglophile, but never have had the opportunity to go to England. Thank you for taking me there, if only for a moment.
