Fancy a Cuppa ? Go On It Will Relax You...

There is no trouble so great or grave
that cannot be much diminished by a cup of tea

~ Bernard-Paul Heroux

It’s NO revolution {cough} revelation, that we British would rather forego any other punishment than being deprived of our tea.

The British seemingly have the act of drinking tea, down to a science.

That being said, in the most recent scientific studies the findings are that drinking tea “Brit” style is one of the most beneficial stress relievers there is.
The very act of taking a few minutes, in the middle of a stressful workday, to pour a relaxing cup of tea, is in itself, a stress reliever.

According to this, CBS/Drew Levinson report, it is a habit well-worth the indulgence.

Milk and sugar ?

Hi Jo, George learned to appreciate tea when he went to China to teach several times. I never drank hot tea much--but now we drink it every day--sometimes twice a day. We LOVE it... But--I'm not we drink it "Brit" style!!!!! ha

Jo, I love a spot of tea. I had no idea I should be doing it during the day when I need stress relief.

Thanks for this post. By the way, The glass tea pitcher with the flower in it, I have one just like that! That tea with the Pods (of flowers)is the most beautiful tasting tea.

I have one question and I am very serious. I have never understood cream in tea. Is there a certain type of tea that cream goes with.

We bought tea and tea mugs with strainer from a Chinese company while in Kansas City. They said you need to pre rinse their tea so that it would be ready to release it's good things and flavor. Brits don't do that do you? Straight tea leaves in a strainer, hot water and go. I will blog about our oriental designed mugs as soon as I can get them to photograph clearly. Guess I need to take them outside. You know that on my family tree are Turners and Abernathy's. I am just as much British as I am German. I know, strange mix.

Betsy: Glad to hear that you drink tea, it's most beneficial as you already know.
By Brit style I assume you mean with milk and/or sugar, that's just the most common way to enjoy tea, in England.

Pasty Sharon: Tradional English teas are Ceylon teas. When people take milk in their tea in England, they mean just that, milk.
Because Americans' refer to milk as cream sometimes, it throws you off.
No-one drinks "cream" in their tea, just plain milk.

I have tea for breakfast and I love a cup of tea around four in the afternoon, if I have the opportunity. 2 Lumps, no milk or lemon.
My Dad always loved his 'cuppa cha' too.

Thanks JO. Now I understand. I'm gonna have to try some traditional English tea with milk.

Absolutely put the kettle on for me...tea with milk and sugar! My grandmother was from England. I learned to love it as a child. :)

LD Burgus: I have tried to drink at least one cup of green tea daily, by all accounts, it does seem to be most beneficial. Look forward to your mug post ..

Andora : Great ! I drink iced tea also, but have to confess, it may be 100 degrees outside, my choice of drink is still hot tea....a Brit thing ;)

Blushing Rose: To each their own, my palette leans towards the black Indian teas which the English drink. Either way, must be good eh ?

Sunny: I started to name this posting...one lump or two, but thought maybe readers wouldn't understand that title. Your dad liked his cuppa cha....so sweet !

Pastor Sharon: Yes try it ...not too much milk, I know longer take sugar, but whatever your taste is.

Longing for Lovely: Then me dear, you are already accustomed to the habit....indulge with pride ;)

It's coffee for breakfast, but tea during the day is like meditation for me...

Nothing like a good old cuppa is there? I will always remember this phrase used frequently in my family, "Put the kettle on then!" The kettle was on all through the day. What is your favorite tea Jo?

I am drinking my tea as I write this. I like plain old black tea with a little milk in it. Milk binds the tannin in tea and makes it more mild. I can't drink black tea without it; if I do, it makes my mouth feel funny. I drink at least one cup in the morning while checking out the news on line, and usually another in the afternoon. Glad to find out how healthy it is!

Wanda: Sounds like you already enjoy your tea !

Denise: Yes, the kettle was on all day long, especially at my gran's bakery, where all the bobbies on the foot beat used to stop, and have a custard, and a cup of tea.
I drink Lipton and sometimes PG Tips, and sometimes Yorkshire Tea.
I noticed a new one in the Brit section, it's Lipton British Blend, so may give it a whirl.
My preference with milk, no sugar.

DJan: You drink your tea, like I drink mine, just a little milk !
Didn't know abou the binding thing...hmmmm interesting.

I drink my tea with a drop of 1/2 and 1/2 cream some time.
Then some tea I like just a spoon of honey.
We drink ice tea all year round with dinner.
There are so many ways to enjoy a cup of tea.

I can relate to the tea story. As an American married to an Englishman and living in England, the first thing we do when anyone stops by is put the kettle on. Husband drinks his with milk and a teaspoon of sugar. I've never seen iced tea served in England, have you? I enjoy your blog as I am from the Midwest, but have also lived in Tennessee.

Just making the decision to sit and sip tea is in itself calming and healthy. I do love black, green, white and earl grey teas. Enjoy lots of herbal teas too. With a splash of 1/2 and 1/2 and honey... which reminds me.. I haven't had my afternoon cup....

Bennie and Patsy: I like iced tea, it took a little getting used to, but it is so refreshing on a hot summer's day. Most Brits don't like it I find.

Midwesttonmidlands: Welcome ! Yes, it is just part of the system in England...put the kettle on. It's not bad is it ?
I have looked at your blog, it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, and I was extremely homesick when I was through..
I will return often !

Robin's New Song: You have tried all the teas...lol I drink black tea mostly with a small amount of milk. But will drink it anyway you serve it ;)

Great video! I drink black tea plain without milk or sweetener. The guys in my family drink their tea with milk. I don't care for flavored teas or herbal infusions.
